My Story
Hello Website Goer! My name is Peter and I run The Impro Shack (I'm the cue ball in the middle, there).
One day, I went to see an Impro Show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was awestruck by the players' ability to HAVE FUN on stage as they made up one silly scenario after another. At the time, I'd struggle to have genuine fun in my daily life, let alone with a crowd of hundreds staring at me. So, to improve the sense of fun in my life, I decided I'd like to give Impro a go. Unfortunately, my university didn't have an Impro Society at the time, so I took the plunge and made one myself - I called it... 'The Impro Society!' (Daring, I know).
I invited anyone and everyone to join me in playing these silly theatre games, and as it turns out, many others were interested in them too. As the leader of these sessions, I'd decide what games we'd play, supply an upbeat and compassionate energy to the room, and make sure EVERYONE felt as supported and encouraged as possible.
The society continued to grow, as did my passion for it. Being able to facilitate a space where people truly felt free from their responsibilities, where they literally fell to the floor with laughter, seemingly without a care in the world - I'd never been prouder of anything I'd done in my life.
After I finished uni and headed home, I decided to bring The Impro Society with me.
Now called The Impro Shack, I aim for it to continue exactly where it left off - and just as before, anyone and everyone, including you, website-goer, are welcome.
